|VINTAGE MEDAL ITALY GARIBALDI 1860 PRESA DI PALERMO Dated 1860 Marked Ed. Massonnett Figuring the left portrait of Garibaldi 50 mm diameter, weight 54 gr Giuseppe Garibaldi (1807-1882), Italian patriot, who served in the army of the Roman Republic in 1849. On its defeat, he fled to the United States, becoming a naturalized citizen. He returned to Italy and in 1859 commanded a corps in the Sardinian army, and in the following year expelled Francis II from Naples, thus defeating the so-called Kingdom of the Two Sicilies.
